Stella Cherry Tree - Prunus Avium

Grow delicious sweet cherries with the reliable Stella variety. This vigorous, hardy cherry tree is one of the best choices for UK gardens, producing abundant crops of large, dark red-purple sweet cherries. As a self-fertile variety in pollinator group 4, Stella doesn't require another tree for pollination (though it works well with other cherries), making it an easy, low-maintenance choice for home fruit growing.

Planting & Care

Plant in autumn or early spring in moist, well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Position in full sun in a sheltered spot protected from cold winds and late frosts. Water regularly during the first two growing seasons and during dry spells in summer. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune in summer after fruiting to maintain shape and remove any dead or damaged wood - never prune in winter as this can lead to disease. Net trees when fruit ripens to protect from birds.

Why Choose Stella Cherry?

Stella is one of the most popular and reliable sweet cherry varieties for UK gardens. It's self-fertile, heavy-cropping, and produces large, delicious cherries that are perfect for eating fresh. The vigorous growth and hardy nature make it easy to grow, while the beautiful spring blossom adds ornamental value. This is an excellent choice for gardeners wanting to grow their own sweet cherries without the complexity of cross-pollination.
