Hawthorn 'Paul's Scarlet'
A small, rounded deciduous thorny tree with lobed, glossy leaves and fully double, light red flowers which appear in spring. These are followed by orange-red berries in the autumn.
Hawthorn creates a diverse habitat for a wide range of animals, including birds, insects and bees. Its May Blossom attracts pollinators like bees and hoverflies, while its haws (fruits) are a vital food source for birds and small mammals. The plant's dense, thorny structure offers excellent cover for small mammals such as wood mice and dormice, as well as nesting and shelter for various bird species.
