Planting Instructions
Plant Male Kiwi ‘Tomuri’ (Actinidia chinensis) in a warm, sheltered, sunny position with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Provide a robust pergola, trellis or wire support for its vigorous climbing growth. Avoid frost pockets and waterlogged ground.
Water the pot before planting. Dig a hole wider than the rootball and plant at the same depth as in the pot. Backfill, firm gently and water thoroughly. Tie shoots loosely to the support and mulch around the base, keeping mulch clear of the stem.
Grow near compatible female kiwi plants whose flowering period overlaps with ‘Tomuri’. Successful pollination depends on compatible varieties, flowering overlap and insect activity. Water during dry spells while establishing and protect young shoots from late frosts. Train and prune to manage growth while retaining flowering shoots.
