Snowy Mespilus (Amelanchier lamarckii) Standard Tree
Bring delicate spring blossom and rich autumn colour to your garden with Snowy Mespilus. Amelanchier lamarckii combines clouds of star-shaped white flowers with fresh bronze-tinted young foliage, followed by green summer leaves and warm orange-red autumn tones.
Supplied as a standard tree approximately 3–3.5 m tall, with a rootball, this is a striking choice for creating a focal point in a lawn, framing a garden view or adding seasonal interest to a mixed planting scheme.
Seasonal interest from spring to autumn
- Star-shaped white spring flowers provide an airy blossom display.
- Bronze-tinted young leaves mature to green through summer.
- Small dark fruits can attract birds as they ripen.
- Orange and red autumn foliage adds a colourful seasonal finish.
- Standard form gives structure and allows lower planting around the tree.
Supplied size and form
Supplied approximately 3–3.5 m tall as a standard tree with a rootball. This is the supplied height, not the eventual mature height. Crown shape and branching vary naturally between individual trees.
Position and growing conditions
Choose a position in full sun or partial shade with moist, well-drained soil. Amelanchier lamarckii is particularly suited to neutral to acidic soil. Allow space for the crown to develop as the tree matures, and avoid ground that stays waterlogged.
Planting and aftercare
Keep the rootball moist and protected before planting. Prepare a wide planting hole, position the root flare at soil level and water thoroughly after backfilling. Stake as needed to stabilise the rootball, check ties regularly and mulch around the base, keeping mulch clear of the trunk. Water during dry spells while the tree establishes.

Planting Instructions
Plant Snowy Mespilus (Amelanchier lamarckii) in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained, preferably neutral to acidic soil. Plant rootballed trees during dormancy when the ground is neither frozen nor waterlogged. Keep the rootball moist and protected until planting.
Prepare a hole wider than the rootball and no deeper than needed to keep the root flare at soil level. Handle the tree by its rootball rather than the trunk. Remove synthetic wrapping and follow the nursery's guidance for any hessian or wire support without breaking up the rootball. Backfill, water thoroughly and stake securely where required. Mulch clear of the trunk, check ties regularly and water deeply during dry spells while establishing.
Size & Specification
Supplied as a standard Snowy Mespilus (Amelanchier lamarckii), approximately 3–3.5 m tall, with a rootball. This measurement describes the supplied tree, not its eventual mature height.
Crown shape, branching and overall appearance vary naturally between trees. Stem girth, clear-stem height and rootball dimensions are not specified; contact the nursery if these measurements are important to your planting scheme. Allow room for the crown and roots to develop.
Delivery & Dispatch
This approximately 3–3.5 m standard tree is supplied with a rootball, not bare root. Please confirm dispatch timing, vehicle access and unloading arrangements with Stoneybrook Nursery before ordering. Rootball lifting and dispatch can be affected by weather and ground conditions.
Prepare the planting area before arrival where possible. Keep the rootball moist, protected from frost and drying winds, and plant promptly when conditions are suitable. Move the tree using appropriate equipment, supporting the rootball rather than lifting by the trunk.
Wildlife & Ecological Notes
The spring flowers of Snowy Mespilus (Amelanchier lamarckii) provide a food source for visiting pollinating insects. Its small fruits are taken by birds, while the developing canopy offers shelter.
This is not a UK-native tree. Combine it with native shrubs and other flowering plants to broaden the range of habitats and seasonal food sources. Fallen leaves can be composted or used to make leaf mould.
