About Beech
Fagus sylvatica is one of Britain’s most elegant native hedging plants, prized for its rich seasonal colour and striking winter presence. Although not evergreen, Beech retains its russet-brown leaves through winter, providing year-round screening and structure. In spring, fresh lime-green foliage emerges, deepening to a rich mid-green in summer before turning a warm golden-orange in autumn.

Planting Instructions
Plant bare root Beech between November and March while dormant. Beech prefers well-drained soils and will struggle in waterlogged ground. It thrives in chalk, loam, and sandy soils in full sun to partial shade.
Space 3–5 plants per metre for a dense hedge. Soak roots for 1–2 hours before planting. Dig a hole wide enough to spread roots without bending, plant to the nursery mark depth, firm in well and water thoroughly.
Trim once a year in late summer (August) to maintain shape and encourage the retention of old leaves through winter, which provides additional screening and interest. Water during dry spells in the first growing season.
