Planting Instructions
Plant in spring or autumn in any well-drained soil. Full sun gives the best foliage colour, though partial shade is tolerated. Space plants 30–45cm apart (2–3 per metre) for a dense low hedge, or 45–60cm apart for a more relaxed planting in borders.
Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and to the same depth as the pot. Remove the plant, gently tease out any circling roots, and position so the top of the root ball sits level with the surrounding soil. Backfill, firm in well, and water thoroughly.
Water regularly during the first growing season to establish. Apply a 5–7cm mulch of bark or compost around the base (keeping it clear of the stem) to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Trim after flowering in late spring to maintain shape and encourage dense, bushy growth. Wear thick gloves when handling — the spines are sharp.

For hedging, plant at 2–3 plants per metre (30–45cm spacing). Suitable for hedges from 60cm upwards. Can be easily maintained at any desired height with annual trimming.
