Cryptomeria japonica 'Globosa Nana' half standard is best planted in spring or early autumn in a sheltered position. Handle with care to preserve the trained form.
- Plant in full sun to partial shade — avoid exposed, cold, drying winds which can scorch the foliage
- Prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil — add ericaceous compost if soil is alkaline
- Dig a planting pit twice the width of the root ball and the same depth
- Backfill with good quality compost or a mix of topsoil and ericaceous compost
- Water thoroughly after planting; apply a mulch ring to retain moisture
- Stake the clear stem securely for the first 1–2 seasons to prevent wind rock
- Water regularly during the first growing season, especially in dry spells
- Light trim of the rounded head in late spring to maintain the globe form if needed — minimal intervention required
