Fast-growing, tough, and beautifully architectural, it's one of the most versatile pleached trees available.

Planting Instructions
Plant in any well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Elaeagnus x ebbingei is highly tolerant of exposed, coastal, and urban conditions and requires no special soil preparation. Dig a hole wider than the root ball, position the tree upright, backfill, firm in well, and water thoroughly.
Secure the frame to posts or a support structure immediately after planting. Water regularly during the first growing season. Once established, it is one of the most drought-tolerant and low-maintenance pleached trees available. Trim the canopy once or twice a year — typically in late spring and again in late summer — to maintain a clean, formal shape.

Wildlife & Ecological Notes
Elaeagnus x ebbingei produces small but intensely fragrant creamy-white flowers in October and November — a time when very few other plants are in flower. This makes it exceptionally valuable for late-season pollinators including ivy bees, hoverflies, and late-flying bumblebee queens searching for nectar before winter.
The dense evergreen canopy provides year-round shelter and nesting opportunities for garden birds. Small orange-red berries produced in spring are eaten by thrushes and blackbirds, adding further wildlife value across the seasons.
