Planting Instructions

Plant Cider Gum (Eucalyptus gunnii) in full sun in well-drained soil, allowing plenty of space for a large, fast-growing tree away from buildings and overhead wires. Water the root ball before planting and set it at its existing soil level. Backfill, firm gently and water thoroughly. Water regularly during dry spells while establishing, and mulch while keeping the trunk clear. Stake if needed and check ties regularly. Coppicing to encourage juvenile foliage should be carried out only on well-established, healthy plants.

Size & Specification

Cider Gum (Eucalyptus gunnii) is a vigorous evergreen tree with rounded, silvery-blue juvenile leaves that become longer and grey-green as it matures. If left unpruned it develops into a large tree and is not naturally a compact garden plant. Supplied height and container size are not specified in this listing; please confirm current stock dimensions before ordering if size is important. Individual plants vary naturally in shape and foliage.

Delivery & Dispatch

Check the delivery information and available options shown at checkout, and contact Stoneybrook Nursery before ordering if you need delivery by a particular date. On arrival, unpack carefully, check the root ball and water if needed. Keep the plant outdoors in a sheltered position until planting and prevent the roots from drying out. Handle by the container or root ball rather than lifting by the trunk or foliage.

Wildlife & Ecological Notes

Evergreen foliage can provide shelter and cover for garden wildlife. Flowers, when produced, can offer nectar to visiting insects, although flowering is not guaranteed on young or regularly coppiced plants. Cider Gum is not native to the UK; combine it with native and nectar-rich planting for broader wildlife value. Check for active bird nests before pruning and leave occupied areas undisturbed.
