Fagus sylvatica Purpurea – Purple Beech Bulk Hedging | 12 x 10 Litre Pots

Purple beech hedging is one of the most spectacular choices for a formal boundary — delivering a rich undulating curtain of deep burgundy-purple foliage through spring and summer, turning warm copper-bronze in autumn before the leaves fall to reveal an elegant interlacing winter silhouette. This bulk buy of 12 x 10 litre plants offers excellent value for establishing a premium purple beech hedge at scale.

What's Included

12 plants, each supplied in a 10 litre pot. Well-rooted established young trees with a strong framework, ready to plant into their permanent positions and begin establishing immediately.

Why Choose Purple Beech for Hedging

  • Deep burgundy-purple foliage from spring through summer
  • Rich copper-bronze autumn colour before leaf fall
  • Semi-evergreen when clipped — retains dried leaves through winter for year-round privacy
  • Smooth silver-grey bark adds winter interest
  • Long-lived and robust — a generational investment in a premium boundary

Planting Guidance

Plant at 2-3 plants per metre for a dense hedge. Purple beech thrives in full sun, which intensifies the foliage colour. Tolerates most well-drained soils including chalk, but dislikes waterlogged ground. Clip once a year in late summer to encourage the leaf retention that gives beech hedging its semi-evergreen character through winter.

Wildlife & Ecological Notes

Beech hedging provides excellent wildlife habitat. The dense structure offers secure nesting and roosting sites for birds including sparrows, finches, and thrushes. Beech mast provides food for small mammals and birds in autumn. The retained winter leaves provide additional shelter during cold months. A beech hedge is one of the most wildlife-friendly boundary choices available.
