Planting Instructions
Plant in full sun in well-drained, fertile soil. Ginkgo biloba is highly adaptable and tolerates a wide range of soil types including clay and chalk, provided drainage is adequate. Avoid waterlogged conditions. Position where the columnar form and autumn colour can be fully appreciated — as a specimen, in avenue planting, or as an architectural focal point.
Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Once established, Ginkgo is remarkably drought-tolerant and largely self-sufficient. Minimal pruning is required — simply remove any crossing or damaged branches in late winter. Do not hard prune, as this can spoil the natural columnar form.
