Planting Instructions
Plant 60–90cm apart for a dense, even hedge. Dig a trench or individual holes at least twice the width of the root ball and to the same depth as the pot. Remove the plant from its pot, gently tease out any circling roots, and position in the hole so the top of the root ball sits level with the surrounding soil.
Backfill with the excavated soil, firm in well, and water thoroughly. Apply a 5–7cm mulch of bark or compost around the base (keeping it clear of the stem) to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Water regularly throughout the first growing season, particularly during dry spells.
Leylandii thrives in most well-drained soils and tolerates exposed, coastal, and urban locations. Container-grown stock can be planted year-round, but spring and autumn are ideal for establishment. Avoid waterlogged or very shallow soils.
Size & Specification
Supplied as 50 container-grown trees in 2 litre pots. Height approximately 3ft (90cm) out of pot at time of dispatch. Leylandii is one of the fastest-growing conifers, typically putting on 60–90cm of growth per year in good conditions, and can reach 5–6m within 5–7 years without trimming.
Mature height: up to 20–35m if left unclipped (typically maintained at 2–5m as a hedge). Spread: 3–5m unclipped. For a dense hedge, plant at 60–90cm spacing. Suitable for hedges from 1.5m upwards.

Wildlife & Ecological Notes
Leylandii (×Cuprocyparis leylandii) is a hybrid conifer and not a native UK species, so it offers limited direct value to pollinators or native invertebrates. However, its dense evergreen canopy provides excellent year-round shelter and nesting habitat for birds such as sparrows, wrens, and blackbirds.
As a windbreak or boundary hedge, it can protect other more wildlife-friendly planting in your garden. For maximum ecological benefit, consider combining with native species such as Hawthorn, Blackthorn, or Field Maple in mixed hedgerow schemes.
