Planting & Care

Plant in spring or autumn in moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Position in full sun for the best autumn colour and flowering. Tulip trees prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil but tolerate a range of conditions. Water regularly during the first two growing seasons to establish a strong root system. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring. Minimal pruning required - simply remove any dead or damaged branches in late winter. Avoid pruning in spring when sap is rising. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and keep roots cool. Note that flowers typically appear on trees that are 15-20 years old.
