Planting Instructions

Plant in a sheltered position in full sun to partial shade, in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Incorporate ericaceous compost or well-rotted organic matter at planting. Choose a location protected from early morning sun and harsh winds to preserve the delicate blooms from frost damage. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball, position so the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface, backfill and firm in well. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch around the base to retain moisture and protect roots. Water regularly during the first two growing seasons. Pruning is rarely needed — remove only dead or damaged wood immediately after flowering.

Wildlife & Ecological Notes

Magnolia denudata 'White Triumph' provides early spring nectar and pollen at a critical time for emerging bumblebees and solitary bees when few other trees are in bloom. The flowers are particularly attractive to queen bumblebees foraging in early spring. The canopy provides nesting and roosting cover for birds, and fallen autumn leaves support overwintering invertebrates in the soil below.
