Planting Instructions
Plant in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil. Nandina performs best in a sheltered position protected from harsh winds, which can scorch the foliage. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball, position so the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface, backfill and firm in well. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch around the base to retain moisture. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system; once established it is drought-tolerant. Minimal pruning required — simply remove any damaged or oldest stems in spring to encourage fresh new growth and maintain the compact form.

Wildlife & Ecological Notes
Nandina domestica produces small white flowers in early summer which attract bees and other pollinators. The bright red berries that follow provide a food source for birds in autumn and winter, particularly thrushes and blackbirds. Its dense, evergreen foliage provides year-round shelter and nesting cover for small garden birds and beneficial insects. Note: berries can be mildly toxic to cats and dogs — plant with care in pet-friendly gardens.
