Planting Instructions

Plant in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Full sun produces the most vivid red new growth. Tolerates most soil types including clay. Avoid waterlogged conditions.

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball. Backfill, firm in well, and water thoroughly. Stake securely to support the clear stem in the first 1–2 years. Mulch around the base. Water regularly during the first growing season. Trim lightly after each flush of red growth to encourage repeat colour and maintain the rounded head.

Wildlife & Ecological Notes

Red Robin produces clusters of small white flowers in late spring which attract bees and other pollinators. The dense evergreen canopy provides year-round shelter and nesting cover for garden birds. The elevated standard form is particularly useful for providing screening and habitat in smaller gardens or courtyard settings.
