Planting Instructions
Plant in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained, fertile soil. Avoid waterlogged ground. Full sun produces the deepest black cane colour. Dig a hole twice the width of the pot, backfill firmly, and water thoroughly. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Important: Phyllostachys nigra is a running bamboo. Install a root barrier at least 60cm deep if planting near boundaries, paths, or in confined spaces. Plant 1–1.5m apart for a dense screen. Water regularly during the first growing season. Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser. Thin old canes annually in spring to maintain the elegant, open form and showcase the dark stems.
