Planting Instructions
Pinus sylvestris is supplied as a pot-grown specimen and can be planted year-round, though autumn and early spring are ideal for large trees.
- Choose a position in full sun. Scots Pine does not thrive in heavy shade.
- Plant in well-drained, sandy or loamy soil. Avoid heavy clay or waterlogged ground.
- Dig a hole at least twice the width of the root ball and to the same depth as the pot.
- Backfill, firm well, and water thoroughly after planting.
- Stake securely at planting - large specimens are susceptible to wind rock during establishment.
- Water regularly during the first two growing seasons. Once established, highly drought-tolerant.
- No regular pruning required - remove dead or crossing branches in late winter if needed.
