Plant in well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Position in full sun for the most vibrant red colour, though it tolerates partial shade. Space plants 1-1.5m apart for a continuous pleached screen. Water regularly during the first two growing seasons to establish roots. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring. Trim after the main flush of red growth in late spring to maintain the frame shape and encourage more colourful new growth. Can be pruned again in late summer if needed. Tie in new growth to the frame to maintain the formal structure. Mulch around the base to retain moisture.
