Prunus laurocerasus 'Rotundifolia' – Cherry Laurel Bulk Hedging

Prunus laurocerasus 'Rotundifolia' is the UK's most popular evergreen hedging plant — vigorous, reliable, and fast to establish. With its large, bold, glossy leaves and dense branching habit, it creates an impenetrable screen that delivers year-round privacy and wind protection with minimal effort. This 5 litre bulk buy is the ideal choice for those who want a more established plant with faster results.

What's Included

This listing is for a batch of 25 plants, each supplied in a 5 litre pot. The larger pot size means a more developed root system, quicker establishment, and a more immediate visual impact compared to smaller grades — ideal where results are needed in the first season. Plants average height between 60–80 cm.

Why Choose Cherry Laurel?

  • One of the fastest-establishing evergreen hedging plants in the UK
  • Large, glossy foliage creates a dense, lush, year-round screen
  • White flower spikes in spring; dark berries in autumn for wildlife
  • Tolerates full shade, pollution, and most soil types including clay
  • Low maintenance — clip once or twice a year to maintain shape

Planting Guidance

Plant at 2–3 plants per metre for a solid, dense hedge. Cherry laurel thrives in full sun to full shade and is tolerant of most well-drained soils. Water well through the first growing season. Clip in late summer using secateurs rather than a hedge trimmer to avoid cutting through the large leaves and browning the foliage.

Planting Instructions

Plant at 2–3 plants per metre for a solid, dense hedge. Cherry laurel thrives in full sun to full shade and tolerates most well-drained soils including clay. Avoid waterlogged ground.

Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and to the same depth. Backfill, firm in well, and water thoroughly. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Water regularly during the first growing season. Clip in late summer using secateurs rather than a hedge trimmer to avoid browning cut leaves.

Delivery & Dispatch

Wildlife & Ecological Notes

Cherry Laurel provides moderate wildlife value. White flower spikes in spring attract bees and other pollinators. Dark berries in autumn are taken by blackbirds, thrushes, and other berry-feeding birds. Dense evergreen growth provides year-round shelter and nesting cover for garden birds.

Note: Cherry Laurel can spread aggressively near woodland. Portuguese Laurel (Prunus lusitanica) is a better choice for gardens adjacent to natural habitats.
