Planting Instructions

Plant in well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and to the same depth. Incorporate organic matter and backfill, firming gently. Water thoroughly after planting and regularly throughout the first growing season. Stake securely — screen trees require robust support posts and wire to maintain their shape and stability. Mulch around the base to retain moisture. Once established, Quercus ilex tolerates drought, coastal exposure, and pollution with minimal care.

Trim the canopy once a year in late summer to maintain the screen shape. Avoid pruning in winter or spring when sap is actively rising.

Size & Specification

Wildlife & Ecological Notes

Quercus ilex provides excellent year-round shelter and nesting habitat for birds thanks to its dense evergreen canopy. Acorns produced by mature trees are a valuable food source for jays, woodpigeons, and small mammals. The foliage supports a range of invertebrates, making this an ecologically valuable tree in formal and urban garden settings.
