Growing & Care Guide

Planting: Red Robin thrives in well-drained, fertile soil in full sun to partial shade. For the best red colour, plant in a sunny position. Space plants 50cm apart (2 per metre) for hedging. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and incorporate organic matter.

Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, it's relatively drought-tolerant but benefits from watering during prolonged dry spells.

Pruning: Trim after the main flush of red growth in late spring to maintain shape and encourage more colourful new growth. Can be pruned again in late summer if needed. Red Robin responds well to regular trimming for formal hedges or topiary.

Feeding: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring to promote vigorous growth and vibrant red foliage.

Top Tips for Success

  • Plant in full sun for the most vibrant red colour
  • Avoid waterlogged soil - ensure good drainage
  • Prune regularly to encourage fresh red growth
  • Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds
