Planting Instructions
Plant in partial to full shade in moist, well-drained, acidic soil (pH 4.5–6.0) rich in organic matter. Rhododendrons are ericaceous plants and will not thrive in alkaline or chalky soils. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball but no deeper — rhododendrons are shallow-rooted and must not be planted too deep. Incorporate ericaceous compost and backfill, firming gently. Water thoroughly after planting.
Mulch generously with bark or leaf mould to retain moisture and maintain soil acidity. Water regularly during the first growing season and during dry spells. Feed with an ericaceous fertiliser in spring. Deadhead spent flower trusses after flowering to encourage the following year’s blooms. Minimal pruning required — remove any dead or damaged stems in early summer.
