Planting Instructions

Plant in full sun to partial shade in moist, moisture-retentive soil. Weeping Willows thrive near water and will tolerate wet conditions. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and to the same depth. Backfill, firm gently, and water in thoroughly. Stake for the first two years. Water regularly during establishment. Allow ample space — the mature canopy can spread widely. Note: plant well away from drains, pipes, and foundations as roots are vigorous and water-seeking.

Supplied in a 50 litre pot at 3–3.5m tall — a substantial, immediately impactful specimen. Salix babylonica is a fast-growing deciduous tree reaching 10–15m at maturity with a broad, sweeping weeping canopy.

Wildlife & Ecological Notes

Weeping Willow is one of the most ecologically valuable waterside trees, supporting a huge range of invertebrates — over 450 species are associated with willows in the UK. The catkins provide vital early nectar and pollen for bees in spring. The dense weeping canopy offers excellent nesting and roosting habitat for birds, and the roots stabilise riverbanks and pond margins, benefiting aquatic wildlife.
