Planting & Care

Planting Instructions
Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil in a sheltered position with partial shade to full sun. Sciadopitys verticillata dislikes waterlogged or alkaline soils — improve heavy clay with grit and organic matter before planting.
Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and to the same depth. Position the tree so the root collar sits at soil level. Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly. Stake for the first two seasons in exposed sites.
Water regularly during the first growing season and during dry spells. Apply a mulch of bark or leaf mould around the base each spring to retain moisture and maintain soil acidity. Minimal pruning required — remove any damaged or crossing branches in spring.
