Plant in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil, in a sheltered spot. Provide sturdy support such as trellis, horizontal wires, or a pergola for the twining stems to climb and for the espalier framework to be tied into as it grows.
Dig a hole wider than the pot and no deeper, so the plant sits at the same depth it was grown at. Backfill, firm in gently, and water thoroughly after planting.
Water regularly during the first growing season while the plant establishes, and feed in spring. Prune after flowering to maintain the shape and size of the framework.
