Planting Instructions
Plant bare root Blackthorn between November and April when dormant. Suitable for most soils including clay and chalk, in sun or partial shade.
Space 3–5 plants per metre. Soak roots for 1–2 hours before planting. Dig a hole wide enough to spread roots without bending, plant to the nursery mark depth, firm in and water well. Insert canes and spiral guards immediately after planting.
Water during dry spells in the first season. Trim after flowering in late spring to encourage bushy growth. Remove suckers to maintain a neat hedge.

25 bare root Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) plants at 60–90cm height, supplied with 25 spiral tree guards and 25 support canes. Bare root form, supplied dormant November–April. Covers approximately 5–8 metres of hedging.
Delivery & Dispatch
Bare root plants are dispatched between November and April during the dormant season. Orders placed outside this window will be held and dispatched at the start of the next bare root season. Wildlife & Ecological Notes
Blackthorn supports over 150 insect species and is one of the most wildlife-valuable native hedging plants in the UK. Early spring blossom provides vital nectar and pollen for bees before most other plants flower. It is a host plant for Brown Hairstreak butterfly larvae and many moth species. Dense thorny growth provides safe nesting sites for Yellowhammer, Whitethroat, and Bullfinch. Sloe berries in autumn feed Fieldfares, Redwings, and other thrushes. Thickets shelter hedgehogs and small mammals.
