Planting & Care
Plant from autumn to spring in well-drained soil. Holly is remarkably adaptable and thrives in sun or shade, making it perfect for difficult areas. Space plants 30-40cm apart (3-5 per metre) for hedging. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring. Trim once a year in late spring or summer to maintain shape and encourage dense growth. Use secateurs rather than hedge trimmers to avoid cutting through leaves. Holly is dioecious (separate male and female plants) - female plants produce berries when a male pollinator is nearby.
